(US Civil War) Chaplain, Sheriff, Judge - Chestine Miller
(Note Need to spend some time on this as Info is very conflicted)

1859-61                 established 2 stores in Pulaski
County
1860                       cast his first presidential vote for Abraham
Lincoln in 1860. 
July 7 1861            The Thirteenth Illinois Volunteers
located at Rolla July 7, 1861; Col. J.B. Wyman, Lieut.-Col. W. Gargus, Maj.
Partridge, Adjt. H.F. Porter, Capts. Noble, Bushnel, Messenger, McNeal, Mayo,
Cole, Gardner, Wadsworth and Blanchard. Mr.
Chestine Miller was post chaplain.    (I
have found the history of the 13th and it lists a Mr Joseph C Miller
a Baptist Minister from Amboy Illinois so I have doubts as also the next year
he is a Sheriff?)
1862-63                 Served as Sheriff of Phelps
County
                                Assisted in organizing the 36th
Regiment Missouri Infantry Volunteers, and was in command of Company B of this
regiment for some time (note: failed to complete organization)
1869                       Large
Library of law books was burned
1869                       Miller-Logan
Murder Case - Logan claimed that Chestine Miller had seduced his daughter, and
this led him to secrete himself and shoot Miller through the mouth. This
disabled Miller for some time, but soon after his recovery Logan was waylaid
and shot. A case was made out against Miller, but after a change of venue to
Laclede County Miller was acquitted, as the evidence could not prove his guilt.
A. Harris prosecuted, while the Bland Bros. defended.
1874                       Admitted
to the Pulaski County bar.  8th
& 9th Judicial Circuits he is the oldest notary public in the
county
